In The Community
Our community matters
As an independent small business, Lester Campbell are committed to helping our local Leeds and Yorkshire communities to thrive. Our team have worked in Leeds and its surrounding towns for many years and, thanks to the amazing people, it’s a fantastic place for many to both live and work. We want to give back by supporting local charities who are focused on delivering positive changes and projects within our local communities.
Our charity of the year: Life Experience
This year we are actively supporting Life Experience, a fantastic community interest company who are on a mission to change the course of young people’s lives throughout Yorkshire. Life Experience was founded by Phil Pearce and is ran entirely by volunteers delivering choices and consequences through their own lived experiences.
This charity creatively tackles anti-social behaviour, knife crime, bullying, substance abuse and much more by collaborating with schools, police, and key local groups. They inspire and engage their audiences through spoken word and acting workshops, small business start-up programmes, and by honestly sharing their personal lived experiences from darker times in their past to where they are now – making a difference!
Join us as we raise awareness of their amazing work in our local communities and help us to fund more valuable projects that can positively impact young people.
We raised over £3,000 to support Life Experience in 2020
For every new instruction in 2020 Lester Campbell donated £10 to our charity of the year: Life Experience. In total we’ve raised £3,080 to support this fantastic local charity so we caught up with their Founder Phil Pearce to learn about what this year’s donations have helped them achieve:
“Hi Jade, I just want to say a massive thank you for supporting us and let you know what we’ve been up to!! Weird year? It has been for us...
The funding we got from Lester Campbell gave us the ability to stand in front of roughly 900 young people and talk to them about choices and consequences relating to crime. The feedback we get from these sessions are always positive and apparently the young people talk about us and our stories for a very long time after!
The schools closing gave us an opportunity to make some different plans! We started working closely with foodbanks and realised that as amazing as food donations are, people also struggle for toiletries. So, we bought toiletries to create and distribute over 100 packages to people in need.
Over the past few months, we have focused on a project with West Yorkshires Violence Reduction Unit creating podcasts which look at Domestic Abuse, Emotional Resilience, Adverse Childhood Experiences, Criminal Exploitation and Grooming. It’s been an intense experience!”
It's been a challenging yet productive year at Life Experience and we are happy to help them deliver such positive changes and projects in our local community. They have more exciting projects to come in 2021 – watch this space for more details!
